Early AM run before the church service…

Got up early in Manchester-by-the-sea Mass (6am) and man it was still cold. Last night it dropped about 20+ degrees from yesterday, and it apparently continued overnight. It registered 40 some-odd degrees when i got up, so a ride was a little out of the question as i was planning on some warmer weather. I made a tiny pot of coffee just to wake up and to allow the earth to heat up a bit more.

So I packed on the running kit with some pants and a jacket and headed out. I shot up School Street for about a mile/mile and a half and then remembered that Kate pointed out a running trail that was a kind of nature park. So i hopped on that to check it out. It turned out to be 2 lengths, one of about 3 miles, and then about a half mile of dirt road with houses linking to another of about 3/4 of a mile. So i ran it out and back for roughly an 8 mile run through the woods and around 11 total. I hydrated with the Camel Back today for the run… not bad at all! It even has a pocket to store a Ciff bar and my phone if i got really lost. The only fuelling I did was a GU about 25 mins in. Other than that I really wasn’t feeling a bonk or the need to take more in. Just water.

I ran into Kate’s friend Christine walking her dogs as I was coming back into town. I had about 1 mile left on what was supposed to be a 10 mile run. We chatted about Dan and Denise for a while and I SOOO did not want to start running again. but she pointed me to what was around a 2 mile loop to round out my run, and off i went. Here are the stats:

  • Distance: 11.15 mi
  • Time: 1:39:35
  • Pace: 8’55″/mi
  • Calories (guesstimate): 1552

So I got back to the homestead with plenty of time, had some more java, a cliff bar to hold me over, showered and headed out to the church.

Oh man the service was tuff! Wet eyes and tight throats all around. But it was good to see all of the Manchester Ladies. And Dan totally rocks. Jeez, what a guy. If I could be half as tuff and as positive as Him and Denise… I’d surely be a much better person for it.
